Overheard on the scanner

I spend most of any given day sitting next to a police scanner, as anyone who has ever called me can attest to. This gives me the opportunity to listen to a lot of static, several obscure number codes, a few real emergencies and the occasional piece of amusing human drama

Dispatcher: The RP (reporting party) at #4 Cherry Court is reporting that there are several kids pounding on her door.

Cop #1: Did she mention that it's me and I've been shouting "POLICE?"

Dispatcher: 10-4 (I understand)

Cop #2: She must think you're a really big kid.

Ben,

You would love covering crime in the county I do. On the sheriff's web site you can view mugshots and information about all inmates currently in custody. And on the county attorney's web site, you can view PDF files for all criminal complaints for felony crimes.

The reports written up by police usually include some nice gems. One I came across today had this great quote from an assault suspect: "“This s**t ain’t over with cuz I’ll be f****g [the victim] up, and that’s a terroristic threat. I ain’t got no shame in my game. You all taking me to jail every day.”

I don't get to listen to a scanner though. So that's upsetting.

Hope you're doing well,
Katie
