blogging site to change

I new year is bringing some changes here. I know I've not been a great blogger and one of my New Year's resolutions is to do a better job at that. Part of that improvement is going to be a new blogging platform. Moveable Type is a nice freeware system but it really doesn't do for us since we have discovered way too much outside comments - random promotional materials mostly but some porno we've caught - and we need to get a new system that will give us more control over that kind of stuff. Our online editor Brittany Dashiell is searching for a good blogging platform that gives us better filters so if any of you know of a good system please email her at udjonline@pacific.net. In the meantime we are going to take this site off the navigation on the Web and we'll let everyone know as soon as we have a new place to be active. I will continue to write here peridically so those of you who know we're here can still tune in.

On another topic, as always when I am on vacation, other editors take on my responsibilities and they sometimes make errors so that's why Valerie Warda's Sunday Voice column for the New Year ended up as a letter to the editor, and why some of our Other Opinions from around the US ended up running twice. And of course it takes me a few days to get my head screwed back on straight too. Lots going on around here lately. I hear the new Ukiah City Council is already sending out little disonance vibes with new Mayor Mari Rodin's system of running the meetings. She wants folks to address each other formally and to use a formal recognition system instead of just raising one's hand to speak. Perhaps she believes this will limit personal attacks or untoward behavior of other sorts, but it seems to me that a small town's city council ought to be able to do business in a friendly informal way without too much problem. I haven't seen it in action yet so I'll leave it at that.
